The Gatelodge is located at the entrance to the estate, on the main Bantry road. It overlooks Bantry Harbour.
Due to its layout it is not suitable for disabled guests.
For those who enjoy mildly eccentric living arrangements, the Gatelodge will prove to be an interesting, comfortable and fun place to stay. The location is ideal for families with teenagers, young couples and all who enjoy the bustle of a little country town.
For those who prefer total peace and quiet, a stay at Bantry House itself is advisable. We will be happy to discuss special rates for longer stays.

The Gatelodge was built in the middle of the 19th century, at the same time as the East and West Stable Yards at Bantry House.
There were five lodges guarding the Demesne, two of which were identical. One was placed at the western entrance, the other, which is the surviving one of the two, to the east of the estate. Pat Skillicorn, the gardener, grew up and lived in it with his family until 1982. It then was unoccupied.
The Gatelodge needed major repairs and the restoration was finally completed in 2005.
